We are looking for singers of all voices, (SATB), particularly Sopranos & Altos to come and join us. It doesn't matter where you're from, because we sing anywhere, and in any church - within reason! The closer you are to Yorkshire & North Lincolnshire, the better though, as this region is where most of our events take place. All singers will be made very welcome! |
Last year, we returned to Brinkburn Priory, North-East Lincolnshire and York, the latter for our now annual Service of Readings and Carols, and also visited Middlesbrough & Halifax for the first time. In addition to this, the Schola Cantorum took part in the first Extraordinary Form Paschal Triduum to be celebrated in central Yorkshire for almost 40 years which was at Notre Dame Chapel in Leeds, and the LMS Residential Training Conference: for Priests Wishing to Learn the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite (Traditional Latin Mass) at Ushaw College, Durham.
We shall again be playing a very prominent part in this years conference in addition to our other choral commitments - please check our Calendar for details! In 2008 we were delighted to perform for the first time in Europe, a Mass by the very talented young American composer Jeff Ostrowski. This has attracted considerable interest, and we hope to perform other similar pieces in their correct liturgical setting. We are already in contact with some composers with a view to singing their works. It's a matter of when we can fit them into our schedule!
We shall also be returning to Barnard Castle for the Annual Founders Day Requiem and the Greek Orthodox Church in Leeds.
We now sing regular services [usually from The Divine Office] in York City Centre at St Mary's Church, Bishophill Junior, York where we have been made to feel so welcome. We sing Compline and, occasionally, Vespers there on a regular basis. These are usually Gregorian Chant only, but sometimes we shall sing a full choral service with polyphony. St Mary's is also the venue for our Traditional Carol Service.

We receive invitations to sing in venues all over the North of England. We also have an open invitation to Fontgombault in France - subject to enough people volunteering!...
